1:30-2:30 Workshop with Heidi, Beginner, Music Room

 2 Chords or Less: Learn how easy it can be to feel chord changes, play and sing confidently at the same time while enhancing your repertoire with a stack of really cool new and old one, two and “no chord” songs!  Keeping the chording simple allows players to focus on rhythm techniques. It’s like taking vitamins.

 Even “Happy Birthday” does the cha-cha when the Latin strums break out. In this workshop, our Latin music specialist, Daniel Ward, will teach a rumba strum which will add spice to anything you play.  And you’ll come away yearning to try it on just about every song you know.  Over hill, over dale, cha-cha-cha.  Everything tastes better with salsa!

In this workshop, Daniel Ward will share a number of easy-to-learn, fun-to-play, short songs and warm-ups that you can “loop” over and over. It’s a great way to build even rhythm, tone, and chord changing chops while you float in a warm tub of beautiful, repeating patterns that make you a better player as you soak them in. You’ll come away with productive tools to practice with whenever you pick up your uke and become a much more expressive player in the process. If you’re a beginner, these are great tools to
start out with.  If you’re more advanced, it’s a great way to break out of whatever rut you may have fallen in to.

I Get Around:  Cannons, commonly called “rounds”, are magic! Short and simple enough to learn quickly, they are a fantastic challenge to sing, for they force one to hold pitch against other voices, creating counterpoint harmony. The simplicity of the melodies is a perfect challenge for players wishing to play single-note lines. The songs may be small, but the challenges and rewards are huge! Participants can sing, play or do both!

 

3:00-4:00pm Workshop with Heidi and Daniel, All Levels, Music Room

SING YOUR STRINGS: USING YOUR UKE TO FIND VOCAL HARMONIES:    Daniel and Heidi teach you to play and sing fun songs, including sea chanties, as you learn to use the strings of your instrument to guide your voice. Singing harmony is simpler than you may think. If you are a duo, in an ensemble or play with a group, this class will give you skills to explore and expand your musical experience.

5:00-7:00pm Open Mic with pizza and dessert, AZ 1 &2
